Togliatti

Una monorotaia sulla Togliatti. Questo l'idea di  Francesco Coccia, direttore del dipartimento dell'assessorato ai Lavori pubblici e alle Periferie, who illustrated his idea on the sidelines of the conference the Ara Pacis 'Back to the city'. "A monorail road between the inner rail to the Gra and all the main districts on the outskirts of Rome. The first section is called 'Eastern Eaves', would be achievable in 3-4 years and cost for eight kilometers, approximately 500 million"

short, a remake of the tram-Saxa Rubra Laurentina sauce futuristic. For those unfamiliar with the history of the troubled corridor to Togliatti following excellent summary (story corridor Saxa Rubra-Laurentina) .
The idea of \u200b\u200bthe monorail is not new but the result of a proposal for engineers in the province of Rome, which can be developed further at the following link ( proposed order engineers roma) .

What's good in that? Finally again on the agenda is a fundamental work for the city highlighting the fact that the tangential mobility is as important as the radial artery.
As for the technology to use the monorail system has clear advantages over a traditional tram:

  • Elimination of the problems at grade crossings, and then speed high and constant over the entire route. Togliatti on the tram would be nice but much more inefficient monorail. Along the way there are 32 intersections in the corridor! It means that either the traffic stops every 5 minutes to pass the tram, or travel times are getting longer so disproportionately. The monorail would be much faster frequencies and by metro. Not to mention road safety.
  • Easy expansion: as a structure on the viaduct could be easily extended to the north beyond the Aniene going to serve those neighborhoods that might be waiting for many decades the Metro D.
  • Low costs: according to what they say they are 8 km and 10 stations with 500 million. The same amount of 3 km and 3 stations B2, rebibbia-Casal Monastero

Many believe the a monorail system useful just for fun or pachi American cities because of its aesthetic impact. I think not.

  • The width of the structure and content.
  • The presence of pine trees or new plantings could "mitigate" the impact.
  • The amplitude of Togliatti is that it does not create the effect "Fantozzi" claustrophobic in having a road under its own window
other hand there is to say that introdure another transport technology to dramatically increase operating costs and maintenance. A tram could exploit the existing deposits, the current fleet, and joints with the other lines (19, 14, 5) to create a real network and diversify the supply of mobility.

In any case I hope that this project starts and you begin to satisfy that hunger for iron transport that is gripping the city.
