From the Book of Genesis
In those days the Lord appeared to Abraham at the Oak of Mamre, as he sat in the tent in the heat of the day. He got up eyes and saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, ran to meet them from the tent door and bowed to the ground, saying: "My lord, if I find favor in your eyes, do not pass by without stopping to your servant. You should get some 'of water, wash your feet and sit under the tree. I'm going to take a morsel of bread and refreshed, and after you can continue, because it is well why you have come to your servant. " They said: 'Do as you have said. "And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said:" Soon, three sea of \u200b\u200bfine flour, knead and make cakes.

From the Gospel according to Luke
At that time, while they were on their way, Jesus entered a village where a woman named Marta, the entertained. She had a sister called Mary, who, sitting at the feet of the Lord, and heard his word. But Martha was distracted for many services. Then came forward and said: "Sir, do you not care that my sister has nothing left to serve alone? Tell her to help me. " But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you care and you troubled about many things, but one thing is needed. Mary chose the better part, which shall not be removed. "

COMMENT ON FIRST READING
1. This song is definitely one of the most discussed of all the history of Christianity. If it were not for the Lord's words, "Mary has chosen the better part, which shall not be taken away," his action would be, perhaps, been placed at least on a par with that of Mars. Yet the Christ, throughout his life, showed us how to love just a fact and not a vague sentimentality, features true love. In speeches on the Last Judgement, in parables and in his own act, has always shown the practicality of the service is essential for those who want to imitate. Marta, in short, would seem to figure who has chosen the best part.
2. His statement, however, is so clear that it can not leave doubts. A closer look shows something to us today. In a world where doing the act, often appear, are more than more, Jesus shows us how the business end in itself, can lose all its value when it is not addressed to the true meaning of life. No coincidence that over the centuries there has been talk of "active devotion." Action, yes, but not active or desire to do action, but in listening to the Lord and with the intent to disappear to reveal his glory and his kingdom. It also addressed the invitation to us to seek what there can not be removed, as we are taken by the charm of the ephemeral things that pass.
3. Listening is the desire to know the things of God, to be instructed on the only things that really matter. As we are poor in this desire! Maria is not an invitation to laziness, but a stimulus to what should be the foundation of all actions that make sense only if directed to God or religious attention we put in what we do? The word of God is the true seed of life and if it comes to our attention because it is the fruit that comes into our life itself. In Mary we see the need to be filled by the wisdom of God and, then, the need to obey what we are taught.
E questa non può che essere, effettivamente, the best part, that no one can ever take from us. What may be envied by others, but one that really shows why not submit ourselves to the next, but Christ.

In today's Gospel, we find another story of welcome and hospitality. Jesus on the road to Jerusalem, he stopped in Bethany. But it is her sister Mary, who left the troubles, gets to his feet, listening to the teacher, as a disciple attentive and friendly, because it is in listening to this "guest" you grow, you learn to have new eyes and new mindset. E ' in welcoming the "different" for excellence that becomes fruitful capable of giving "Life" just like Abraham and Sarah, one becomes capable even in the heat (the hour of distress) to offer and accept the unexpected guest. 1. Lord, help us to understand the true wealth of your teachings. Grant us to be taught by your word of life. Away from us presume to be self-sufficient, when the only truth that we should keep in mind è che senza di Te non possiamo fare niente di buono.2.
